In this example of a fisheye calender, it's not possible to see if an event exists for a particular date. There should be a way to see if some particular date has an event scheduled

Yes, definitely. I'm thinking something like in the Android Calender, where you not only can see that there is an event, but also in what part of the day.

How is it going for this story? Is it still under development?
It seems that marking public holidays or non-working days for the whole team would be quite useful.

The Story is currently not under development. We develop only the Stories that you find in the current Sprint Backlog.
We may tackle this in the near future. However, calendars are quite tedious to make, so I would not quarantee that we won't reprioritze.
